The original name for this candy was called Opal Fruits. The person behind this was a man named Peter Phillips. In 1968 one year after being introduced to the United States was renamed Starburst. This was done because in the US. They were called M&M’s Fruit Chewies. Due to M&M’s being associated with chocolate, it recommended a name change.
